Microsoft Teams Direct Routing – a Silver Microsoft Partners view
As Microsoft Teams becomes more developed over time and businesses start to enjoy the significant amount of internal and external collaboration that is on offer, we take a look at call costs and the associated technologies required to use Microsoft Teams as your business telephone solution or ‘PBX’ as it is more widely known.
What is Microsoft Teams?
Teams is Microsoft’s own attempt at building a Unified Communications platform that encompasses and really centralises around employee engagement and collaboration. Users can share documents within specific ‘Teams’ and invite and remove both internal and external users.
Teams is a one-stop shop for Video Conferencing, Instant Messaging and Screen Sharing and if your business couples this with more stringent Security settings available from some of the Office and Microsoft 365 licences available it makes for a very strong method of communicating in areas of high compliance.
Teams is also a very basic ‘PBX’ in that it can make calls, however it was launched early and Microsoft is playing catch up to more established PBX providers such as BroadCloud, leaving the market open for providers such as Curatrix to develop solutions such as Trident-Teams to enable a much more in-depth and controllable Teams dialling platform.
What is Trident Teams?
Trident-Teams is what most providers affectionately describe as Teams Direct Routing. A method of deploying Session Border Controllers (in our case, to the cloud) and leveraging own SIP channels to provide advanced PBX features such as:
- Independent, high availability, carrier-grade infrastructure across diverse data and voice transit providers.
- Enterprise hardware and software which comes with a true 99.999% uptime SLA.
- Over 900,000 numbers which cover all of the UK. Allocated by Ofcom.
- SIP Based Call Recording
What are the benefits of Trident-Teams?
The obvious benefit, for the most part, is that Trident Teams is based on call concurrency and not a per-user cost. This means that typically, Trident Teams will be a third less per month than a typical 25 Man Microsoft based Teams deployment.
25 Man Business – all with S4B Bundles
Cloud PBX – £6 per user – £150.00 per month
Bundle – £9.10 per user – £227.50 per month
Monthly Total – £377.50 per month
Excludes Audio/PSTN bridge
25 Man Business – with Trident-Teams Direct Routing 4:1 call concurrency*
SBC Licence (7 Channels) £15 per SIP – £105.00
Call Bundles (7) £10.00 – £70.00
Total Monthly Cost – £175.00
In this example, the customer saved over 50% of the Teams cost by switching to Curatrix Trident-Teams and in doing so, gave themselves more control over their Teams call routing, without waiting for responses to Microsoft support tickets.
Added benefits of this are:
- Faster Support if things go wrong
- Guaranteed UK Based Data Centres with failover residing in the UK
- Microsoft Silver Partner – buy all your licensing from one partner
- UK based helpdesk with accredited engineers
A compelling business case – CSP
Microsoft has made it clear in its current licensing model and the Microsoft Partner community that they need forward-thinking solutions providers such as Curatrix to provide high levels of support. They need this because they are software developers and providing support for the worlds largest provider of OS and Office based software is a difficult task.
If you don’t already buy from a Microsoft Cloud Service Provider then it is time to rethink this as not only will you make significant monthly cost reductions, your account management will increase to what you should be expecting from your software provider.
You’ll receive MS Insights based on usage of applications, data storage and advised on how to reduce this further. A true CSP will never sell a service, they will guide you to the right licensing and make recommendations based on yours and their expectations.
